Groups and Activities
ADULT DISCUSSION - Participants select a topic to explore, and then meet on Sunday mornings, in the basement, for one hour beginning at 9:15 am. The discussions are a source of spiritual enrichment for adult parishioners. The current discussion topics are from the Apologetics series booklets and reflections of Saint Paul. Every one is invited to join us. BAPTISM CLASSES - Will be held on the First Saturday of the Month at 10:30, right after the 10:00 am Mass. BREAKING THE BREAD - First meeting date is August 12, 2010, 5:00-6:00pm in the R. E. Building. Father Tran invites everyone to join him for Braking the Bread. The group meets in an informal setting where the Gospel for the following Sunday will be discussed and explained. BUILDING & MAINTENANCE - Building and Maintenance committee oversees the physical parish plant for maintenance etc. The committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. CLINTON CATHOLIC CHARITIES OFFICE - Offers a variety of services such as counseling for individuals, children, adolescents and families; parenting classes; substance abuse counseling; DUI evaluations and immigration services. COLLEGE LUNCHES -Free lunch is served on Wednesdays during the school year in the Parish Hall between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for college students and university faculty in the hope of developing fellowship among students & the parish. Lunches for the Fall Semester will begin on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH - Mass will be held at 10:00 am. FLOWER BED MAINTENANCE - Volunteer families or individuals sign up to “adopt “ one of the flower beds on the church property during the summer and take care of it (water/weed/etc). HOLY HOUR - Tuesday thru Fridays (except the first Friday of the Month) at 3:00 pm. The weekly format may change from week to week, and may include Devotions to Mary, the Divine Mercy (Chaplet), the Rosary, prayers and private meditation. Sometimes Holy Hour may include prayers for the sick and a Novena. Father Tran invites everyone for an hour of prayer. LADIES’ ALTAR SOCIETY - A fellowship and service group for the women of the parish. Meetings are currently held about 4 times each year and one or two fund-raisers are held each year. Food for the sick, funeral dinners and receptions are sub-committees of Guild.
LITURGY COMMITTEE - Purpose is to coordinate the various ministries which support the community celebration of Mass. Quarterly planning and coordination meetings are conducted for the various sub-committee chairpersons. Sub-committees: Sacristan - prepares the altar before liturgies; Gifts - carries up gifts during Mass; Ushers/Greeters - greet the Mass participants, hand out bulletins, take up collections, and secure buildings after Masses; Servers - assist the priest during Mass (boys & girls - 4th grade through adults); Lectors - proclaim the 1st & 2nd readings during Mass; Music - Cantor leads singing during Mass, musician accompanies during Mass. The youth also assists with cantoring during Mass.
MEALS-ON WHEELS - Weatherford churches take turns transporting hot noon meals, five days/week to the homebound. The month of March, St. Eugene Catholic Church delivers the meals, which consists of two teams of two persons each delivering approximately 10 meals. The routes are preplanned and take about 1 hour to make the deliveries. PANCAKE BREAKFASTS - A pancake breakfast is served in the parish hall on the 1st Sunday of every other month. The Soto Family hosts the pancake breakfast by preparing, cooking, serving, and cleaning up. Our first breakfast will be on August 15th, 2010, in the Parish Hall to welcome new college students, their families, and everyone returning from the summer months. JOURNEY IN FAITH (also known as R.C.I.A.) - This is a year long process during which a volunteer team works with adults interested in joining the Catholic Church. Participants go through a period of preparation and formation to be received into the Church at Easter Vigil.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION - This program provides religious education for grades Preschool through 12th grade. Regular classes are on Sunday mornings: 4-year-olds through 5th grade from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. Wednesday evening: 6th through 12th grades, and First Communion/First Penance Class, from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The Confirmation class also meets on Wednesdays from 6:30 until 7:45 p.m. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY - Purpose is to serve as a parish conduit for providing services to those in need of assistance. Meetings are each Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Food Pantry is open every Monday and Wednesday 4:00-5:30 p.m.
SOCIALS/ACTIVITIES - Various social events are held throughout the year such as pot-luck dinners, ice cream socials, progressive dinners, holiday parties, swim parties, Thanksgiving dinner, etc. Ideas and help are always appreciated.
YOUTH SPONSORS - Assist with junior high (Junior Catholic Youth Organization), high school (Catholic Youth Organization) and college (Catholic Student Association) students. Contact the parish office for times and dates the groups meet.
