Religious Education

Registration
Please come to the Religious Education Office when coming to class for the first time.

Fees
No Fees are required for Religious Education at either the elementary or secondary level.  However, student’s texts run approximately $11.50 per person.  This includes preschool up to and including high school students.  We also use many consumable items such as scissors, crayons, glue, paper and audiovisual materials as well.  Any donation is always appreciated.

Christian Behavior Policy
We expect the same kind of good behavior at Religious Education classes that is expected at regular school.  Please do not talk when the teacher is talking.  Fighting or unkind words to each other will not be tolerated.

  • 1st time - a reminder.
  • 2nd time - a warning.
  • 3rd time - see director in the office and parents are notified.
  • 4th time - director will take the student home.

Building Rules

  • No running, pushing, shoving.
  • No food except in allowed areas.
  • No Gum EVER.
  • Please keep hands, feet and any other equipment off the walls.
  • Please do not mess with light switches, fire alarms, etc.
  • Please flush toilets and turn off restroom lights.

Attendance
Every class is important.  Frequently missing all or part of scheduled sessions does affect a child’s religious education.  Each class builds on the one before.  However, if your child is unable to attend PLEASE call your child’s catechist so missed work can be prepared.

Arrival/Dismissal
Please be punctual.  Have children at class on time – and don’t be late to pick them up.

Bad Weather
If it becomes necessary to cancel class, each family will be contacted by phone.  Only the pastor and/or DRE can cancel classes.

Parent Participation
Please understand that all teachers, substitutes, DRE are volunteers of the Religious Education program.  They spend many hours of preparation and actual class time to bring the Catholic tradition of the Christian message to your children.  Your participation by looking at your children’s work, asking them about what they are learning and practicing with them greatly enhances the success of the program.  Perhaps you, too, may choose to volunteer realizing that a few cannot do it all.
We are here to serve the religious education needs of our children, youth and adults.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to share them with your child’s catechist or call the office.

Child Abuse
Pursuant to state law, we are required to report suspected child abuse, and we will also follow diocesan policy on such matters.  All volunteers are required to sign an acknowledgement that they have read and understand the ethical and personal conduct policies of our diocese.  No activity can be sponsored in the name of the parish without approval of the religious education director and priest.

Policy Additions
Any or all changes or additions to policies from our Pastor/DRE or the Archdiocesan Department of Education can be added in strategic places or as Appendices to the Parish Religious Education Handbook.
